when it rains….

it pours. to think…just a few months ago i wasn’t sure what i was going to do to keep busy…now…i’m trying to decide what things i really want to do. beside the part time gig at a major retailer, i’m doing some networking/selling for a new marketing company  http://www.saturdaymfg.com/. i’m also going to be the ‘executive director’ for a small chamber of commerce. (a really small chamber only 10 hrs a week). lastly, i’ve been handling the ‘social media’ for a small group of locally owned bars/restaurants! talk about a full plate.

i’ve resorted to using my ‘windows live’ calendar as well as my palm to keep everything together. i think i will have to add a dry erase calendar with my schedule, etc. on it so that my family can keep track of what’s happening. i’ve tried to stay true to a recent horoscope (pisces) ‘take on only the things you will love & say no to the rest’ .  so far so good!

the results are in….

high cholesterol! yuck!  so far it is just over the limit…i’m not going to embarrass myself by giving you the number! its awful, i feel like i’ve really been trying to watch it. i’ve switched to ‘smart balance’ for a butter substitute except for in baking…i really did try the no-fat cream cheese (see previous post) but it was soooo gross i just couldn’t continue. i’d rather limit myself to 1 tb of the real thing than a cup of the fake. so the commercials say ‘diet & exercise’….well i guess that leaves exercise. i just have a block about actually doing it! i feel like i have a somewhat active life-style? my 25+ hour a week job has me on my feet, running? i’m gardening, climbing the stairs, but i guess its just not enough!

tomorrow….final part of my annual check up…the mammogram! if you are 35 or over, please talk to your doctor about having your first mammogram.  the first one is called your ‘base-line’ and it will be referred to over the years to determine changes, etc. this site http://bit.ly/SBo17  says to have one at age 40…but my doctor (she) reccommended one at 35…and my insurance paid for it! i felt a weird lump about 18 months ago, and had another mammogram and since they had my base-line they were able to determine it was just fibrous tissue.

be safe!

Weight Loss….

April 15, 2009 at 2:35 am (Uncategorized)

well, the weather has been quite a downer recently. easter was downright cold! if i was a hypochondriac i would say i’ve got ‘seasonal affective disorder’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder …but really i’m just tired of my wardrobe.

my annual physical was last week, lots of fun…you know you love them. well of course the topic of my weight came up and my ‘bmi’ (body mass index). well no offense but that chart is crap! obviously the older you get the harder it is for you to lose weight. i guess we should be telling all the young ones (or not) to watch out; you can’t eat a bagel for breakfast after 40 without having it stay on your thighs forever!

at this point in my life i’m about 40lbs over weight (according to the bmi). yet i have a hard time feeling really motivated to do anything about it. i’m generally healthy (see last posting), my cholesteral was within reason (still waiting for my last results) i wear a size 14….so i can shop at just about any store…not just lane bryant (no offense). i just don’t like to ‘exercise’! i don’t like to walk unless i’m sight seeing, working or shopping. yoga is fine, i did take that for a while and enjoyed it. but otherwise, not really an activity kind of gal.

the real culprit is food. i’m a foodie…i’m not gonna lie…i like to cook, bake, sautee, and eat! i’ve tried to focus on cooking and eating healthy, and i don’t do too bad. but have you ever had low fat cream cheese? i put some on a bagel (half) and took one bite and thought i was going to die…i had to spit it out and throw it away! yuck! i’d rather have none than have gross.

in a round about way…i’m to my point….really….with warmer weather comes more of an opportunity to be outside. gardening, farmers market, relaxing on the porch, reading a good book..whatever! anyway i hope to add more activity to my life, but exercise…no thanks. but this also means a round of summer foods…steaks on the grill, baked potatoes, homemade ice cream…here we go!

three years…almost too good to be true

April 8, 2009 at 3:31 pm (Uncategorized)

i’m talking about the fact that i have not had a cold or serious illness in the last three years….until now!  oh i’ve had the usual enviornmental allergy issues i’ve always had, but not an energy draining, nasal blocking cold like this one.

the last time i was truly sick was just over three years ago…it was a horrible virus, with fever, nausea and several days in bed. after that i vowed i would try to boost my immune system with a daily intake of vitamins.  i started with a good multi vitamin and added vitamin c, e and a fish oil capsule.

for three years this worked like a charm!
